November 2023: Water Quality Analysis

Updated: Jan 22

Hi everyone

Please find attached the results of Water Quality monitoring for November, 2023.

In respect of the results the following notes are offered for your consideration:

  1. Some waterways were sampled before significant rainfall and some after – this is best illustrated in streams like Wongawallan Creek when looking at turbidity which increases when water level is lower.

  2. We finally received some decent rainfall. This best shows in results like Waterhen Lake where pollution levels have decreased due to runoff.

  3. As a general rule the results indicate that the waterways are holding up better than expected, with no Cyanotoxic blooms reported as yet.

  4. In respect of the Chemical Analyses, results are generally within normal guidelines; it would appear that people are generally of the need to reduce pollution levels through two primary practices which are only using sufficient phosphate fertiliser in the garden to keep it going, and maintain septic tank health.

  5. The herring spawning  run in the Coomera River finally departed, after the rainfall, with a total breeding season of around 3 months.

All in all a fair set of results in which have been challenging weather conditions.

Kind regards

Steven Gill
