September 2022: Chemical, Water Quality and Macroinvertebrate analysis

Hi everyone

Just wanted to keep you informed about our latest activities and results.

  1. Our latest planting at Regatta Waters Park was a wonderful occasion, with our youngest planting group yet. We enjoyed the company of nearly thirty planters and were blessed with the hands on support of our local MP Mark Boothman, CoGC councillor William Owen-Jones, and NAMU representatives Saraya and Dan, as well as our usual group of very able planters ; it was a great morning with around 1,000 plants being put to bed. We enjoyed morning tea together afterward with a mental reminder to bring more cupcakes next time. Many thanks to everyone who supported our efforts.

As it was our last planting for the year, I trust you will join us again in February 2023; you will be made most welcome.

  1. Attached are our WQM results for September 2022.

In respect of those results, the following explanation is offered for your consideration:

  • The overnight downpour experienced by Upper Beechmont and down to the coast, caused significant variation in results - there were spikes in Phosphate readings at Birds Road Crossing through to Riverstone Crossing, most probably due to recent fertilising in the immediate area

  • A spike in Ammonia Nitrogen readings at Regatta Waters is possibly due to a leaking sewer main as it is localised when compared to the other three sampling points in the lake

  • In the Coomera River much of the inflow of turbid water was caught between Koala Town Rd. and Santa Barbara due to the low high tides being insufficient to move the dirty water out to sea, hence the higher turbidity readings

Together we do great work.

I look forward to doing even greater work into the future.

Kind regards

Steven Gill
